Firm Camemberts - my most successful cheese! I've made 8 wheels in the last few months! |
Hi Everyone! 😊
It's been nearly a YEAR since I posted here on Rainy Day Cheese Making! I can't believe how time flies. Most of my friends know that last February, my husband and I bought our first home. We bought sight unseen and moved from a bad situation in Quebec to a lovely rural and peaceful setting in New Brunswick.
I put my cheese making on hold because of lack of time, though I snuck in a few wheels here and there, I didn't have the time to blog about it.
Jarlsberg is another successful cheese in the roster. I've been making that one every few months. |
I was hoping to try many new cheeses in 2020, but we had a lot of issues with the new-to-us house and those plans had to be put on hold. Now that things have settled down a little bit, I plan on re-activating this blog with my cheese making efforts!
A few months ago, Alex designed these cheese labels for me, aren't they nice?
I don't ever plan on selling my cheese (too many legal ramifications), but I have been giving a few wheels away with lovely feedback, so I thought it might be nice to have fancy-shmancy labels to go with them!
This is a 6-month Cheddar that will be ready in April 2021 |
I miss making new cheeses. I've been looking up new recipes and I plan to do more videos this winter/spring.
I'm trying to make everything possible from scratch and this includes all of my cheeses. It's time consuming and it takes a lot of planning, but it's so rewarding to have some homemade soup, homemade crescent rolls and homemade cheese to go with it!
All recipes are listed on my right sidebar!

I love the labels and I love your cheese!!! Well done Rain! A+++ Excellent to see you posting on here again!
This is wonderful, Rain! It's nice to see you getting back into this since you enjoy it so much.
Wonderful labels! So important to keep things straight, isn't it? Moving, getting semi-organized, starting new homestead projects are an important season, so it's nice to see you can resume some of the things you love to do.
Those cheeses look amazing and something I'd never attempt without a coach, but I would sure be up to tasting them! Also, I lived in New Brunswick for a short time long ago and it is a beautiful place! Best wishes in your new life! And happy cheese-making!
THEY ALL look gorgeous!
Wow, makes me want to eat cheese.
This all looks delicious Rain.
I like cheese.
I wish you a nice Sunday.
Greetings Irma
Love those round cheese labels.
The cheese looks very delicious Rain.
I like camember.
Greetings Irma
I love cheeses, and yours are beautiful.
Hello Rain,
I wish you much luck with your home and cheese making. They are look delicious, I love cheese too. It is a shame it is not easier for you to see sell your cheese, I am sure it would be very popular. Take care, enjoy your day!
I love that you are making beautiful cheeses~ I have a farm and dairy goats for 40 years now. Cheese making is our summer fun as the goats make us many gallons daily and we waste nothing. Our favourite is a cream cheese that freezes beautifully and can be easily added to pastas, sandwiches, potatoes and rice casseroles; we also do a lot of Mexican cooking and desserts with it. The entire process is unheated so all the goodness intact.
By the way, your Colby cheese looks delicious. I am inspired to find some new cultures and try them out. Thank you for sharing.
A belated thank you everyone for your sweet comments! Cheesemaking is a fun hobby that is rewarding and delicious! I hope I inspire someone out there to try it! Time is against me these days and all I've managed to make is one more Cheddar. One of these days life will settle down a little for us here and I'll try some new cheeses!
Those cheeses look so good and the labels are smart, I think they would sell like hot cakes! It is a pity that tight rules and regulations mean that selling isn't an easy thing to do.
Yum....just jumping over to see if you have been making cheese. I bet that is more a winter project?
Thanks Rosemary :) Yeah, for me the regulations are a little too complicated. I'd have to dedicate more time to it and I don't have that time! Thanks for your comment! :)
Hey Pam :) Well, Fall and Winter are good cheese making seasons. Summer isn't too good because of the heat. But also time and money for milk and ingredients is playing a huge factor for me this year!!
I am so impressed with your cheese making. It just amazes me . . . everything homemade is better and I can only imagine how wonderful your cheeses are :)
hand made is always better! Great job
Thanks Connie! ♥
Thanks Felicity! ☺ This is a skill I'm so proud to share!!
They all look so professional 🧀 and so yummy Rain.
I've been a vegetarian for over 20 years but I still eat some dairy foods and cheese is a real weakness. I'm guessing yours taste wonderful.😊 Do you make these to sell too? What an interesting pursuit to try.
I have taken to making a lot more scratch recipes in the past two years, especially breads. I've always been an avid cook as you probably remember but even more so now. I just LOVE making a big beautiful loaf of bread.🍞🍞
Hugs and happy wishes for the week and in 22!

I have something I wanted to ask you. Thanks!
I love the labels!
Sad there are such strict laws, I would buy some from you, they look great!
Ingo was saying let´s make (hearty) pies - nearly unknown in Germany - and sell those, but, yips, same problem as yours.
Oh, don´t give me a new hobby with those recipe-collection! ;-)
LOL Iris!!! Cheese making is a DELICIOUS hobby!!! ☺☺ The legal aspect stops me from selling my cheese, but I give a lot to neighbours and friends here and they always tell me how good it is! ♥
Never been an expert on different cheeses. My family usually just did American cheese slices for sandwiches, cheddar cheese and maybe mozzarella. I never ventured off to buying anything different however I have tried diff out at other places. One fave is pepperjack. I like the little kick. I figure you are staying busy doing cheese to get through the coming winter, canning and working outside. Stay safe.
This appears a very well done chease! It seems delicious aspect.
